A day in the life of a business broker
Ever wondered what the role of a Business Broker is? You’re not the only one! A Business Broker has a varied and interesting job, which has them meeting new people and seeing new places every day! No two businesses are the same (even if they’re within the same industry), so it’s only natural that no two business days look the same either. Join Core Business Broker, Roy Levy as he takes you through a day in the life of a Business Broker, from dawn until dusk!
So this week, we’re pulling back the curtain and giving you a peek behind the scenes of a day in the life of a Business Broker. Join Core Business Brokers, Roy Levy as he takes you with him to work today!
Q. What are your pre-work rituals? Is there anything you do to kick start your day before heading into the office?
Roy – The first meeting I have is with myself. Three to four days a week I head to the gym early for a workout and then get to the office between 8.30 am and 9 am with a clear head, ready to start my work day.
Q. The day has just begun! What is the first port of call now that you’ve entered the Core Business Brokers office?
Roy – I check my emails (and delete the spam 😊) and then list the priority emails to attend to. We have a code at Core Business Brokers to reply to all communications received within 24 hours, even if it is only to acknowledge receipt of the communication and to confirm we will reply ASAP.
Q. Coffee in hand and the day is in full swing. What’s on the agenda for the rest of the morning?
Roy – Follow up diarised events, respond to new enquiries, meet with fellow brokers to discuss current work and new marketing.
Q. As Business Brokers with over 25 years’ experience in the Sydney business industry, what’s the most interesting business sale you’ve dealt with in recent years?
Roy – Manufacturing business with highly specialised equipment and required skills to operate the plant. We ensured that the owners put in place specific measures before we marketed the business to overcome the perceived risks and we received 33 enquiries and 4 offers within 6 weeks.
Q. A Business Broker’s work hours differ from the standard 9-5 from time to time, to help cater to all parties involved in the business sale. But for the purpose of this question, let’s pretend you’re clocking off right on 5.30pm! What tasks will you focus on for the afternoon before heading home for the evening?
Roy – I ensure that I am well prepared for any meetings (Zoom or face to face) occurring the next day so that there is no rush to do this on the morning.
